Milpas Altas Farm began as the homestead of Sarah and Tobias Keller in 1850. The original farm encompassed approximately 100 acres on Echo Valley Road in New Britain Township, Bucks County, PA. For more than 150 years the farm was passed down through the family to Eli and Annie Keller, then to Elmer and Mildred Keller and finally to Aubrey and Anna Keller Gilmore. The farm, referred to as the "Old Keller Farm", ultimately became five parcels of which two make up the 20 acres of Milpas Altas.  The single lane road was fondly renamed Keller Road for the family.

The name “Milpas Altas” means Tall Corn; just as original photos of 1890’s show widely spaced corn growing right up to the barn, so too were the surrounding fields full of densely planted mature corn in 1995 when we took over stewardship of the farm. Although the Kellers kept mules, dairy cows, pigs, and chickens, our sheep and horses feel right at home in the rolling pastures with a century and a half of grazing stock having gone before them.
